Information

Bleeding is one of the most dangerous complications of surgery and the biggest obstacle to wound healing. Hemostasis, the first step in normal wound healing, is an important strategy for the prevention of post-surgical adhesion formation. In this session, we will discuss the process of normal wound healing, the consequences of delayed healing, and the techniques and products used to promote successful healing. The pathogenesis and consequences of adhesion formation will be explained, along with the methods used to prevent adhesions, such as good surgical technique, mechanical barriers, and pharmaceuticals.

After this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of hemostasis in wound healing and adhesion prevention.
  • Discuss the steps in normal wound healing and some techniques and products to promote healing.
  • Discuss the steps in adhesion formation, its pathogenesis, and how to prevent it from occurring.
